Feelings faces put names to feelings. A card with a face — happy, mad, sad, scared, tired — lets your child show how they feel when the words are not there yet.
Who it may help
- Children learning to notice and name feelings.
- Children who act out big feelings because they cannot say them.
- Any child working on checking in about how the day is going.
How to use it
- Start with four faces: happy, sad, mad, and tired.
- At a calm moment, ask: “How are you feeling right now? Show me.”
- Name what you see and accept it: “You feel mad. Mad is okay. Let’s find what to do about it.”
- Use the faces when your child is unwell too — “feel sick” can be its own card.
The Toolkit Plus version adds a larger set with more feelings and everyday situations.
Versions include picture-only, picture plus word, and an expanded Toolkit Plus set.
